Media centers are going to be a big gift item this holiday season so we decided to put together a quick comparison of the three we like the best. Western Digitals HD TV Live, O!Play by Asus and Patriot Medias new offering. Each has it’s own core competency.

The Wester Digitals is the streaming of YouTube, Flickr and Live365 and more to come, The O!Play is that is can connect to eSata dries for faster transfer and the Patriot Media server can host an internal hard drive in addition to external drives on 3 USB ports. Each of these media servers is a great deal to manage your growing media library in a portable media device.

I just read a post on Chicago Tribune.com that Flytunes will cache up to 40 minutes of audio. This means you can listen to your favorite Flytunes station, they are up to over 60 now, and then take it on the road with you without your WiFi connection for your iPod touch. Of course those of you with an iPhone can still use the available Edge network stations while away from WiFi but this is neat. I’m trying mine tomorrow morning. How many minutes of Internet Radio will Flytunes cache on your iPod touch or iPhone? Leave a comment here. Update after the break…

UPDATE: This morning (May 12, 2008) I fired up Flytunes on my iPod touch and let it stream for about 8-10 minutes then got in the car to drive to work. Flytunes continued to play cached content for 35 minutes. I should mention that I was playing “The Office” station which is a lo-fi station geared for the iPhone so it might not have cached as much had I picked a higher bit rate station. Still a pretty neat trick. Makes one wonder how much longer satellite radio can last before Internet Radio takes over on all fronts.
